 Product Description

Quisqualic acid is recognized as an agonist for AMPA, kainate, and group I metabotropic glutamate receptors. It stands as one of the most potent known agonists for AMPA receptors. This compound is utilized in neuroscience to induce excitotoxicity and selectively target neurons within the brain and spinal cord. Additionally, quisqualic acid is naturally found in the seeds of Quisqualis species. Furthermore, research conducted by the USDA Agricultural Research Service has revealed the presence of quisqualic acid in the flower petals of zonal geranium (Pelargonium x hortorum), where it is responsible for inducing rigid paralysis in Japanese beetles. Quisqualic acid is believed to mimic the neurotransmitter L-glutamic acid, which plays a role in the neuromuscular junction of insects and the central nervous system of mammals.
